Marshall Lee and Fionna are shown to be very good friends. Marshall seems to be more violent than Marceline, saying that he "kills people every night," although this may be an exaggeration. Since Marceline is telling the story at this point, this might suggest the way she thinks of herself as a villain, although Marshall Lee is arguably the more evil of the two. This also might suggest that Marceline wishes she could express remorse better she rarely apologizes to anyone. However, he seems to feel remorse more quickly than her. His behavior towards Fionna mirrors that of Marceline towards Finn in "Evicted!," taking Cake away from Fionna for fun (and in Marshall's case at least, for her attention). He also displays Marceline's love to mess with people with elaborate jokes.

He greeted Fionna with the sign of the horns, a very popular hand sign amongst heavy metal and rock fans. He appears to have an interest in music like Marceline, as he's shown to rap and carry around and play an electric guitar, opposed to Marceline's bass guitar. Marshall Lee describes himself as a villain, fitting the part as he is rowdy, and endangers others with his violent, "friendly" rough-housing. Like Marceline, his physical appearance is that of a typical late teenager or a young adult. Marshall Lee commonly wears a buttoned, grey striped red plaid, dark blue jeans with turn-ups, and brownish-red and white sneakers. Like Marceline, he has a permanent bite mark on his neck, and pointed ears. He has messy black hair, and two sharp canine teeth like Marceline's. Marshall Lee is taller compared to most of the other characters, standing at what appears to be around 5'11. He is shown to have a resistance to cold weather, as demonstrated in " Sugary Shorts". Marshall Lee also appears to have the same rapid healing that Marceline has, as, when the sun started to burn him, the burn vanished shortly after Cake used her body and blocked it from touching him. Like Marceline, he can also raise the dead and control them. He can turn into a bat form, like Marceline, with the difference being that he keeps his hair. He can also sing, however, raps more, and is shown to play a guitar. In " Bad Little Boy", he mentions "drinking the red from your heart in one sitting", although, this could have been a fib. Some official artwork shows him eating the colour red, like Marceline does, and consumes the pink from creme puff filling. Marshall Lee is presumed to have the same abilities as Marceline, as, he is seen levitating, along with being able to turn into a bat.
